Thriller Publishing Launches Military MMO Dev
Thriller Publishing, debut at GDC 2008 and co-founded by MicroProse co-creator J.W. "Bill" Stealey and former MicroProse Members, announced the formation of Thriller New Media,a wholly owned division, specifically focused on creating and operating massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs).
Now this new division is concentrating on developing military-action-spy FPS online games, together with other aggregated content, will form the basis of a new social networking hub the company is also developing at Thriller New Media.
Why did they have so much confidence to be able to get a slice in such a fastest growing segment of the 41 billion USD global video games industry - the eight-billion-dollar-a-year online games market? They will tell you with great proud. Many members of the Thriller New Media team have strong roots in military video games, spy games, FPS action games and online multiplayer games going back to circa 1985-92 MicroProse, one of the most successful game brands of all time. The team's goal is to once again build a world-class, worldwide, online game company in the tradition of MicroProse with long term franchise value.
"As a company, Thriller Publishing will continue the strategic work we've begun over this past year to purposefully leverage original new characters and storylines across all popular entertainment media - books, games and film - with the potential for sequels and sustainable series," says Thriller Chairman J.W. "Wild Bill" Stealey. "However, while laying this groundwork for Thriller, we also have identified significant opportunity with some other exciting related game experiences in the online multiplayer and MMOG space that we can capitalize on right away and bring to our network even sooner."
"Thriller New Media affords us the ability to focus specific resources and efforts in the immediate online space to launch services within the next 12 to 18 months, maybe less," says Thriller President & CEO Fred Schmidt. "We have a number of great game products under evaluation, some already under option agreements, and are looking for more. At the same time, we are developing our own social networking platform through which all Thriller content, and much more, will be presented. Look for specific announcements to be made later this year."
